History has faced thousands of times with disasters. All of them were unexpected, disastrous, carrying people to illness and death, destroying houses, destroying crops. But only the cause of those catastrophes were the phenomena of nature. And today we are threatened with environmental catastrophes.
Date 26.04.1984 made the whole world shudder. The date when mankind was scared of itself more than volcanoes, earthquakes, floods ... The whole world was panic: a terrible explosion carried radiation, as it was claimed, to 100,000 km square. Now ecologists assume that the entire planet has suffered. Hundreds of people died right after the liquidation, thousands - in the next three years. No one will tell the exact statistics. But the diseases caused by the action of radiation, a long echo will respond to our grandsons and great-grandchildren. And if the explosion repeats itself? After all, the probability is very, very high. Nobody undertakes to predict what is happening now under the sarcophagus. Experts unanimously agree that the ongoing reactions are capable of giving a new release, more powerful. And here it remains only to hope. A man-made miracle called a nuclear power plant, which gives us warmth and light, can rebel at any second, destroying mankind with his own weapon. But we continue to use this "miracle", erecting new nuclear power plants ...
The ecological catastrophes of the world are a consequence of the actions of mankind. They are much more dangerous and more terrible than natural ones. They can not be predicted, they can not be controlled.
We slowly and inevitably lead ourselves to destruction, polluting the environment, arranging the disposal of radioactive waste, bringing its soil to erosion, depleting non-renewable mineral resources ... How long and this list is terrible! ..
Just imagine:one centimeter of chernozem accumulates naturally by 300 years, and we destroy by centimeter in three years! Chemical, metallurgical, and oil refineries routinely dump hundreds of thousands of tons of waste into rivers that become (and some have long since become) dead. Oil production has caused huge oil spills in the ocean, not to mention accidents and simply plums of "extra" oil by vessels transporting liquid fuel.
And here are examples of other "innocent" interventionsman: thirty years ago Polesie gave 220 centners of valerian root a year, today - no more than five; of the 47 rare medicinal plants of Polissya (some grew only there), "thanks to" an uncontrolled and barbarous attitude when collecting herbs, there are not more than 10 left; the area of harvesting curative cranberries from 80 hectares decreased to 20 hectares ...
The rivers and seas dry up ...
Is not this an environmental disaster?
In large cities, the concentration of various harmfulsubstances exceeds the permissible norm several times, and sometimes tens of times. And acid rains with nitric oxide and sulfur dioxide, burning out leaves and grass, have long ceased to amaze.
The construction of mines, open quarries, airports, highways, powerful power lines, tunnels, canals, sewage dumps, landfills - all this is also not so harmless as it seems: the natural natural landscape is changing, and with it the natural ecological balance is also violated. Animals and birds disappear or die, plants disappear. And if within the construction of a single object this is not noticeable, then in combination the scales are incredibly huge.
No matter how messy it looked, but someenvironmental catastrophes lead to others. The chain, the links in which are becoming darker and heavier. About what will lead to environmental disasters of the 21st century, you can not say.
But the point is not in the full list of these problems. The main thing is that ecological catastrophes quickly and inevitably kill the planet, and with it humanity, which still has a chance to save and preserve that small part of nature that still managed to survive. But for this it is necessary to rethink the causes of the occurrence of such disasters and to reveal the ways of their resolution.
The sphere of life on our Earth can be preservedonly a person who is actively engaged in today's destruction. The solution of the problem is the exchange of experience and information, international cooperation, the adoption of new and stricter environmental laws, taking into account the accumulated knowledge, the implementation of the latest developments in this field.
