CREON FOR CHILDREN

Digestive means enzymatic actionused to replenish the missing pancreatic enzymes. There are several such drugs available, among them the most famous are Festal, Biofestal, Ferestal, Normozyme, Enzistal, Biozim, Pankreoflat, Vestal, Gastinorm, and Mezim. , "Creon" and others. They contain very important digestive enzymes: amylase (breaks down starch into oligosaccharides), lipase (a water-soluble enzyme, helps dissolve and fractionate fats) and protease (breaks down peptide bonds between amino acids in proteins). As a result, the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats is improved. These drugs are prescribed for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as nutritional errors. For young patients, the drug “CREON for children 5000” is recommended. Use it only on prescription.

The drug "CREON for children 5000" intendedfor the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, manufactured by Abbott Healthcare Products Limited (United Kingdom). These are round, light brown granules that are stable in gastric juice (mini-spheres, each is protected by a shell). They release the drug only in the intestines. Packaged in 20 g in glass jars with lids of high density polyethylene, supplied with a measuring spoon, which holds 100 mg of granules containing 60.12 mg of pancreatin (excipients: hypromellose phthalate, macrogol 4000, triethyl citrate, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone) . One spoon of Kreon granules is a dosage for children that corresponds to the following pancreatic enzymes:

  • lipase - 5,000 units;

  • amylase - 3,600 units;

  • proteases - 200 units.

The drug is protected from the shelldigestive (gastric) juice. Pancreatic enzymes from the drug are released in the small intestine by the action of its alkaline environment. They take the medication by mouth (half or one third before eating, and then the rest while eating), it takes 30 minutes after taking it. Pellets (minimicrospheres) should be swallowed whole, not chewed them (chewing will lead to the destruction of enzymes under the action of gastric juice) and drinking plenty of water. The initial dose is 100 mg (5,000 lipase units) of gastro-resistant granules (one measurement with a spoon). If necessary, the dose can be increased gradually. For small children, the granules are mixed with a small amount of breast milk, fruit puree or given medicine directly from a spoon before feeding. The daily dose of CREON for Children should remain below 2500 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight per meal (10,000 units per kilogram per day). At higher doses, the drug should be used with caution and only when this condition of the child is controlled, and the appointment is made by the doctor. This especially applies to small children.

The drug "CREON for children" has contraindications.It should not be prescribed to patients with hypersensitivity to proteins of pigs or to any of the fillers (excipients) of porcine origin. The drug should not be prescribed in the early stages of acute pancreatitis. With an overdose rarely, but there are cases of hyperuricuricuria and hyperuricemia (only at very high doses of pancreatin), in most cases, the abolition of the drug is prescribed and symptomatic therapy is carried out. Also known are side effects that occur when taking the CREON drug. Instructions for children indicate that gastrointestinal disorders most frequently occur, accompanied by abdominal pain, less common diarrhea, constipation, impaired stool, nausea and vomiting. Infrequently, but allergic reactions or reactions caused by hypersensitivity to the drug, its components, and only in cases of high doses of pancreatic enzymes.
