A monologue is a way of expressing one's own thoughts

Monologue - is the statement of one personpresented orally or in writing. At the same time, active speech is designed for passive perception of the one to whom it is intended. The addressee can get acquainted with the essence of the monologue through direct or indirect communication. In case of deferred contact between the addressee and the author of the message, there should be an intermediary, in his role usually technical devices, a letter, a seal.

Comparison of monologue and dialogue

During the dialogue, the interlocutors constantly change the roles of the listener and the speaker, each statement causes a corresponding reaction. In the monologue of all this is not, the addressee has no opportunity to ask again about the author or clarify the details.

For all functional styles of speech, a monologue is acceptable, but in each of them it manifests itself in the form of different monologue genres. In a scientific style, it can be a review, article or monograph. In the colloquial, a letter and a story are distributed, in a journalistic one - an essay, a note, a review, correspondence. In the official business style, a monologue is a certificate, law, report or decree.

The author of a detailed statement should alwayssomeone to send his message, he can not talk to himself. The addressee can be personal or mass, the construction of the text, its fullness and features of perception depend on it. A monologue is always opposed to dialogue, from their combination, as a rule, artistic prose genres are built. Although extended speech refers to passive communication, it retains its communicative nature. Each monologue is dialogical, just the features of the dialogue are a bit peculiar and pushed aside.

All monologues are divided into several types independing on the functional and semantic characteristic underlying the text. The most common are the narration, description and reasoning. Narrative texts belong to the genre of the story and underlie the novels and short stories. They are inherent in the description of events in dynamics. The characteristic of the monologue in this case includes the exposure, the plot, the development, the climax, the denouement.

Description is a type of speech containingthe enumeration of the elements and characteristics of an object, its external characteristics, phenomena in statics, internal characteristics. This type is similar to narration, but the verbs are used here not for the development of action, but for characterizing the subject. Reasoning is a type of mental activity; explanations and syllogisms are considered the most common.

A monologue is a competent statement of one’s own thoughts, observations, conclusions. He demands from the author a certain speech readiness, plan and goal.
