Kurumoch International Airport is located inBereza, between two large cities: Samara and Tolyatti. In 2015, more than 2.2 million passengers were served there. At the end of the year, it is among the ten largest airports in Russia.
History of origin and development
Officially considered to be the date of opening of the airport December 19, 1957. On this day, an order was created to create a fourth-class airport Kurumoch.
The airport was built before 1960.This year, training flights on AN-10 and IL-18 aircraft were allowed. From February next year, the Kuybyshev-Moscow flight began to depart. It was the An-10 aircraft carrying cargo.
On the same plane, but a few months later,The first flights for people began. In mid-May, a passenger flight was sent to Mineralnye Vody. Immediately after that, flights to Leningrad, Sverdlovsk, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Adler began.
Already by the beginning of the seventies, 700 thousand people used the airport services. Shipping amounted to 27 thousand tons.
In the late eighties, the airport underwentreconstruction. Built new facilities, improving infrastructure. By this time, the construction of the second runway, which allowed to receive larger aircraft, was completed.
Kurumoch International Airport received its status in 1992. A year later, the international terminal began its work.
In 1994-1995, the airport was renamed several times. In 2002, the airport returned its traditional name - Kurumoch.
In 2007, a large amount was allocated from the state budget for reconstruction, which was planned to be completed by 2014.
By 2011, 96% of the airport shares passed into the hands of"Development Corporation of the Samara region". And in January of next year, the reconstruction and construction of a new complex of buildings began. The use of the new terminal began in January 2015.
General characteristics
The airport is located at a distance of 35 kilometers from Samara and at a distance of 45 kilometers from Togliatti.
Airport Kurumoch can serve aircraft of various types, including the An-124, Tu-204, Airbus-A330, Il-96 and other, lighter versions.

How to get to the airport and back
There are several ways to get to the airport. The easiest is to take a taxi.
The second option - route transport.It departs from the site located near the terminal. Tickets are sold at the box office, in the arrivals hall. Bus number 652 runs regularly on two routes: Kurumoch (airport) –Samara, Kurumoch – Tolyatti.

Accidents
During its existence at the airport, four serious disasters occurred.
In the disaster of March 8, 1965,30 people died. Of these, 9 crew members and 21 passengers. The plane was run by an intern, next was the examiner. When climbing due to a malfunction of artificial horizon in conditions of snowfall, the pilots lost orientation. The plane fell to the ground.
The second disaster happened on July 9, 1973. As a result of the destruction of the engine was damaged fuselage. Splinters killed two passengers. Two more were injured.
A serious catastrophe caused by the pilot occurred 20October 1986. During landing, the landing gear broke. The plane lay down on its belly and in such a position it moved about three hundred meters.
