The history of Stavropol airport has herealready eight decades. Back in 1934, in the current capital of the North Caucasus Federal District - in the city of Pyatigorsk - a civil aviation squad was established, which was engaged in transporting mail, passengers and cargo. At the same time, this unit, consisting of pilots, was transferred to the city of Voroshilovsk (the current Stavropol).

The airfield was located east of the railwayStation of the city. In the pre-war years, aviation maintenance was carried out regularly at the above-mentioned transport infrastructure, postal letters and parcels were sent inside the country, and passenger traffic was carried out.

In 1954, Stavropol Airport received new aircraft models at that time — the L-60, Yak-12, and AN-2 aircraft. Six years later, the Stavropol-Moscow air route appeared.

In 1963 a new building was built.terminal, which was located in the area of ​​the village Shpakovskoe (the current Mikhailovsk). Stavropol Airport is still there. Over time, the need to transport people and goods by air has increased significantly. By 1985, Stavropol Airport had air communications with 26 cities in the country.

Seven years later, a regional joint-stock airline was created. However, by the end of the 20th century, Stavropol Airport again became state property.

In 2010, according to the order of the head of the Russian state, the Stavropol international airport was established.

Currently, the above airport serves routes both within the country (St. Petersburg, Moscow) and abroad (Yerevan, Thessaloniki).
