The peak of Communism. His story

climbing Lenin Peak

Let's start with the fact that this mountain peak wasopen, one might say, completely by accident. Nearly 100 years ago (in 1928), a scientific expedition was working in its vicinity, studying local geology, flora and fauna. At the very beginning, scientists mistakenly took the mountain as the Garmo Peak, which was open a year earlier. This went on for several years, until 1932, when experts finally established that the above-mentioned peak was located 20 km from Communism Peak and is not at all considered to be the highest point of the mountain range.

How did you manage to set the height? With the help of topographic surveys conducted by I. Dorofeev. It was he who established the true height of 7495 m. After that, the place was mapped and at first assigned to him the sonorous name of the great leader of that time, JV Stalin. And only in 1962 the summit was renamed the peak of Communism, which is more familiar to us.

But that's not all.As you know, the Union collapsed, the political system did not meet expectations, and the mountain, which is geographically located on the territory of Tajikistan, received a new name - the name of Ismail Samoni, a person historically considered the founder of the country.

But the locals call the summit of Uztergy, which istranslated into Russian sounds like "breathtaking" or "dizzy." Indeed, from such a height and head not long spin, and the spirit is breathtaking.
