Arthur was born on the twentieth of October 1967 inTashkent. His family moved there from Nagorno-Karabakh and maintained close ties with the Armenian community. According to his own memories, he was then frail and low. The young man dreamed of becoming a musician and showed no interest in the sport. A classmate called him to practice. Arthur did not want to go, but agreed on the terms "just to see." After the class, Lev Akhmedzhanov approached him and offered to study.

First steps

Arthur Grigoryan immediately showed talent in boxing.His first diploma was for the victory in the weight category up to twenty-two kilograms. The young man showed great dedication and trained hard. The coach believed in Grigorian and supported him. In 1985, Arthur goes to the army. Even in the service, he continues to train. He was a member of the Army Sports Club and took part in competitions. It was there that he paid attention. After demobilization, Artur Grigoryan is called to the USSR national team. His career begins with the first fees.

All-Union Fame

At the training camp Grigoryan meets the bestSoviet boxers. He even sparred with Konstantin Tszyu. However, it is not possible to compete properly. Arthur Grigoryan three times participated in the USSR Boxing Championship, and each time could not even get close to the top places. The first serious medal goes to him in 1990. The athlete manages to break into the final of the USSR Championship, in which he met with Mekhak Ghazaryan. Opponent by this time was already very famous and was considered one of the best fighters in the world. Arthur lost the final match and won the silver medal.
