Nikolai Khomeriki, born in Belokamennaya inIn 1975, at first, for a long time I could not decide on the choice of profession. At the insistence of the parents, the future director graduated from an economics university and became an accountant at a Coca-Cola branch. Having proved himself properly, he went to Amsterdam to continue his education and get an MBA degree. In addition, the young man created a joint venture to supply household chemicals to the capital. Business developed well, but fate was adamant.
The first steps in the film industry
During study in one of MoscowEconomic universities Nikolai Khomeriki became a frequenter of the Museum of Cinema, he gradually began to study this kind of art. While in Amsterdam, he enrolled in a local video library, continued self-education, revising the classics of cinema. Surprisingly, Khomeriki discovered that in Russia there is a special understanding of the classics of cinema, according to which Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Bergman occupy the Olympus of cinema art, and less talented directors are not so highly rated. The more the future film director re-watched, the more he became interested in less well-known authors. Among the pictures that influenced the formation of Khomeriki’s creative thought are A. Starker’s “Stalker”, pictures by the directors of the French “New Wave”, striking Nicholas with their ease of dramatic art, some films by German filmmakers. According to the director, he admires the work of Rainer Fassbinder, which in Russia no one puts on the same level as the world-famous classics, as he managed to shoot two pictures in a year. For the Soviet / Russian school - this is unconvincing and not monumental.
The beginning of the creative path
Upon returning to Moscow, Nikolai Khomeriki deliversdocuments for admission to higher courses of directors and screenwriters. By this time, he had not shot a single frame and was a complete layman in how to make a movie. V. Khotinenko became his mentor, although in the process of study A. Herman had a greater influence. Khomeriki’s debut work was the three-minute sketch “The Drop”, highly praised by the Sopot Film Festival. After a triumphant application about himself in the world of cinema, Nikolai Khomeriki was awarded the French Foreign Ministry grant to study in graduate school of one of the national leading film schools La Femis. After completing his education, French film director Philip Garrel suggested Nicholas to become his assistant during the filming of the film “Regular Lovers”.

According to the plot, all the characters in the film are voluntary participants in a certain experiment. As a result, the originally conceived scientific experiment becomes social, and the consequences threaten to become unpredictable.

Script writer managed to find a new story and create a script for a movie about a clogged world. The name of the new project was chosen with special care, as the authors tried to build a certain message in the name. “The Tale of the Darkness” was immediately positioned as a Russian art-house. The plot acquainted the viewer with the fate of the main character - a very beautiful and clean girl, who, working in the children's room of the police, tries in every way to adapt to the surrounding reality. In many pictures, including this project Khomeriki, the ex-ballerina, actress Alisa Khazanova was shot. The director met her in France. At that time, Khazanova was in a prisoner of deep depression because of the serious injury she received, which interrupted her ballet career at the peak of her success. It was the director who was destined to become the person who gave the girl hope, helped to find a new profession. "Tale ..." eminent film critics is called the beginning of the director's speed evolution, the heyday of his original style.
Dynamic, but not mass cinema
"The Tale of the Darkness" and the one that followedBoomerang Hearts took part in the Cannes Film Festival's Special Look at the competition. The hero keeps his emotions, and no longer thinking about the meaning of life, trying to take everything from her.

The film is a protracted plan of a little girl looking at the camera without blinking, mounted with a long plan of a calm water surface that flashes in the train window. Duration of the project is only three minutes. Filmed by a permanent cameraman Alisher Khamidhodzhaev, Nikolai Khomeriki most willingly cooperates with him. The director's wife in an interview with the media said that this short film is a passage taken during the filming of a film about autistic children Lyubov Arkus. By the way, the director's wife is Stasya Khomeriki-Grankovskaya, a dramatic actress. Most recently, she made her debut in the series of her spouse, “Secrets of the City of En” (2015), playing the secondary role of Ida.
