Cinema "Illusion" is the brainchild of the State Film Fund of Russia. It is located near the Kremlin, in the heart of the capital.
There are almost seventy thousand films in the movie storages equipped in the building overlooking the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment. Analogues of this collection does not exist worldwide.
History of creation
Cinema "Illusion" for the first time invited viewersThe viewing of films was still March 18, 1966. The basis for its opening was the order of the Chairman of the USSR State Committee on Cinematography of the USSR State Committee, published on November 12, 1965. It indicated the need for extensive use of the film collection stored in the Gosfilmofond storerooms.

Cinema "Illusion" was the first non-commercialcultural institution. In his work, he did not submit to the official censorship in those days, while at the same time under the strict control of the party organs of the capital.
At the beginning of its activities cinema "Illusion"experienced constant pressure from party and official authorities. This happened due to the exceptional nature of the institution and the demonstration of a special repertoire. The cinema used non-standard forms of propaganda. From time to time the question was raised of completely closing the Illusion. However, the decision was never made. A big role in this was played by public opinion. Such outstanding masters of the Soviet cinema as Mikhail Zharov, Roman Carmen and Marina Ladynina also contributed to the continuation of the cinema. Subsequently, they took a kind of patronage over the "Illusion", helping the institution to avoid critical situations.
