Bartzella - peony, conquered the world

Peonies have long settled on our sites and ingardens. The times when they were considered as "old" flowers of the same type were forgotten. Nowadays there is a wide variety of peony variations, including those with the original Pink Spritzer cactus-like flowers or half-double like Coral Charm. But Bartzella is considered to be a true triumph of floriculture - a peony, which appeared in the collections of connoisseurs only thirty years ago and managed to conquer them forever.

History of origin

The original homeland of peonies is China. For many centuries of breeding in this country, the grassy form of these flowers has been developed. But the peony found a second life, being imported to Japan in the 17th century: here they presented him with a new flower shape, which is still called “Japanese”. However, enthusiasts did not stop at this and managed to achieve the yellow color of peonies. Now such versions are known as Ito-hybrids, by the name of professor-breeder Toichi Ito. On the basis of these hybrids, Bartzella was bred at the end of the 20th century, a peony received by American grower Roger Andersen.

Appearance

The result of the efforts of the American was high, almost a meter, a plant with a lemon flower of characteristic Japanese shape, having a dark pink or red center. In diameter, the bowl reaches a quarter of a meter, has a bright but unobtrusive smell. Foliage throughout the season remains decorative, does not dry out and does not fade. On one bush can be up to two dozen flowers. Stalks are strong, do not need garters and props, due to which the Bartzella peony does not lose the shape of a bush. In cutting costs longer than other Ito-hybrids.

We plant correctly

Как и другие представители семейства, Бартзелла (peony) loves the light and does not tolerate swampy and waterlogged areas. When choosing a place for it, it is better to give preference not only to areas that are well lit, but also remote from trees and buildings. It is better to dig holes for it in advance, so that the earth could settle in them. Their size is about 60 x 60 centimeters, and after digging out the bottom is two-thirds lined with a layer of a mixture of peat, humus, garden planting land - all taken equally. A composition of 150 grams of superphosphate, a can of ash and a tablespoon of iron sulphate is recommended as a primary top dressing. The amount of substances should be adjusted depending on the composition and quality of the soil in your area.
