- Shut-off and regulating element represents 2 plates from metal ceramics connected among themselves. On the case of each of them there are holes, the position of which relative to each other is adjustable with a lever.
With a minimum of moving parts and their reliability, smooth control of the water flow is ensured.
Principle of operation
Ceramic crane works according to the principlechanges of the opening through the plates. After installing the unit in the mixer, the water under pressure enters the structure frame. The normal position of the plates at the same time is such that the holes on them do not coincide with each other. Thanks to the perfectly flat surface, a tight clamp ensures tightness.
Then, as the lever turns,the displacement of the planes, resulting in the holes of the plates are superimposed. The water in the housing, under its own pressure, passes into the gander of the crane. The basis of the reliability of the device is its simplicity. It is this design that replaces the worm and ball models.
Advantages and disadvantages

The positive aspects include the following:
- Small effort to open (close) the crane.

But, besides this, the disadvantages should be taken into account:
- High cost relative to classic locking devices. The exceptions are cheap models, which have significantly reduced the quality of the materials used.
- Requirements for water.In the presence of solid particles, there will be a rapid deterioration of the ceramic plates, the cause of which is an abrasive reaction - damage to the surface, as a result of which the tightness of the device will deteriorate.
All this must be considered when choosing a specific model of a crane box made of ceramic. But sooner or later even this reliable device can fail.
Repairs
Due to the simplicity of construction, to repairCeramic crane-box can be on its own. To do this, you will need a screwdriver, pliers, aerosol WD-40 (or equivalent) and a gasket for replacement. The latter is best picked using the old one as a sample. Most often, it is the source of leakage in the faucet.
The order of repair work:
- Dismantling the device from the body of the crane.
- With the aid of a slotted screwdriver, a ring-clip is removed at the lever.
- Next, the plates are removed and the control element.
- After that, the metal surface is treated with WD-40. This is necessary to remove the rust layer.
- Then the device is assembled again, a new gasket is installed at the end. This repair is completed.
If the inspection shows damage on the plates,the ceramic crane needs to be replaced. It is difficult to find and pick up parts similar to them. Fortunately, the cost of good factory models is more than affordable.
