Today, a simple pencil is not a product.unique. Nobody pays any attention to this simple thing, which many have at hand. However, two centuries ago, such products were a real luxury.
History of occurrence
Like many inventions of world importance, the idea of creating a simple pencil appeared purely by chance.
Once upon a time Josef Gartmut, who owned the Czechfactory for the production of chemical glassware, studied finished products. He accidentally broke the cup-crucible. The flying fragment of the product, which incredibly touched the paper during the fall, left a black mark on the sheet. This fact is very interested in Joseph. He found out that the fragment was able to leave the strip due to the graphite contained in the product. In the course of numerous experiments, he derived the ideal ratio of clay and graphite, which allowed Gartmut to begin the production of high-quality writing rods. Josef called his products “Cochinore”, which means “unmatched”.
Factory Tour
KOH-I-NOOR pencils are produced in the cityCzech Budejovitsy. They have been creating them since 1790. It is surprising that all the pencils of the most famous brand today are produced on several machines. On the one hand, plates of Californian cedar are placed in the working unit, and on the other hand, ready-made graphite leads. With the aid of a machine tool, hollows are milled into planks, into which a graphite rod is then placed. After gluing both sides, it turns out a closed case with nine slate inside. After the glue hardens, the plank is sent to another machine, cutting it into nine individual pencils.
Today, KOH-I-NOOR pencils are produced using the same technology as several centuries ago. Is that California cedar today delivered from China, not from California.
Further products are sent to the next shop. There, their surface is painted in the desired color. KOH-I-NOOR pencils are coated three times with the selected paint. After drying, they are waiting for the next shop. There is a gold tip attached to each piece, with or without an eraser.
There are several more workshops in the factory in which KOH-I-NOOR pencils are packaged, checked for the presence of a logo, and they also manually control their quality.
