It is a multilevel structure of interrelated standards. It includes more than 350 regulations. On the basis of the SSBT standards of enterprises of all sectors of the national economic complex are being developed, establishing rules for the organization of activities, implementation and monitoring of compliance with the prescribed procedures. Specificity
Unified system of technological documentation(ESTD) determines the production level for specific methods, equipment, equipment, tools used in the enterprise. GOST 3.1120.83: Unified system of technological documentation
It was first introduced in 1974. Unified system of technological documentation (ESTD) includes 10 groups of standards. They are:

- The sixth group. It provides for standards that establish rules for the preparation of documentation, used in auxiliary production, in the process of carrying out activities in tool shops.
- The seventh group. It establishes the rules for completing the documentation. In particular, the requirements for the recording of transitions (operations), the use of graphic symbols in the development of unified forms are provided.
- The eighth group. These standards are reserved.
- The ninth group. These standards define the structure of normative-reference information, transferred to the media and provided in accordance with the primary information present in the technological documentation.
