There are probably no people who would not know aboutMoscow Kremlin. This architectural complex has not only large size, but also an interesting history. The Moscow Kremlin includes a huge number of historical buildings, monuments and towers. The latter in the complex, there are more than ten. However, the most interesting story has the Nabatnaya tower.
When was erected
Information about who built the alarm towerThe Moscow Kremlin, alas, has not survived. To find out such information is not possible. The tower was built at the end of the fifteenth century. To be precise, back in the year 1495. The building is located between the other towers: Konstantin-Eleninskaya and Tsarskaya. Inside the building is divided into several tiers. The lower level is a rather complicated room, consisting of many cameras. It is connected precisely with the running parts of the walls. From 1676 until 1686 the tower underwent some changes. During this period of time the construction was built on. Its top was tetrahedral and hipped.
Of course, the construction was performed not onlyaesthetic functions. A bell was installed on the tower, around which the attendants were constantly located. Their duties included monitoring everything that happens on the horizon. In case of danger, the bell rang. This allowed to warn people about the approach of the enemy.
After the suppression of the “Plague Riot”, Catherine II ordered the bell to be pulled out. The naval tower stood without making a sound for about 30 years.
The Story of the "Plague Riot"
In Russia in about the second halfthe eighteenth century, the plague began. In addition, the country's population suffered greatly from hunger, as well as from ill-treatment and bullying of the police. However, the main reason for the emergence of unrest became not given facts. The starting point was the transfer of the icon to the Barbarian Gates secret from civilians. From that moment began a riot. It was the ringing of the bell of the Nabatnaya Tower that signaled the beginning of the action.
People gathered in the square. However, they were cruelly punished. Many were killed and maimed. The rebellion ended as suddenly as it began. As a result, 4 people were hanged and 72 beaten with a whip, and then sent to galleys. After that, the Kremlin's Nabatnaya Tower was silent for 30 years. Such a decree was issued by Catherine II.
Nabatnaya tower in our days
This building still stands and resemblesmuch about those terrible events. Of course, time does not save anything. In the 70s of the last century, the foundation of the structure began to collapse. The result was a fairly large crack. This is reflected in the structure. Nabatnaya tower tilted strongly. Stop this process failed. The efforts of many professional architects were thrown at it. However, the alignment of the construction has not been done yet.
Top of the structure as a result of the slope movedfrom its vertical axis by about one meter. Of course, this made the Nabatnaya Tower even more popular, since it was called the "Moscow Tower of Pisa".
