The history of one of the mostpowerful civilizations of the ancient world are shrouded in mystery and legends. The founders of the Roman Empire and the Eternal City itself are two brothers, whose fate is very unusual. From the school history course, we know that on the seven hills, some Romulus and Remus, the boys whom they wanted to kill in infancy, laid the foundation. However, the gods intervened in the game of human passions.
Who brought up Romulus and Remus? What are they?They are descendants of the legendary king Ascanius of the dynasty of Aeneas, who founded the city of Alba Long. The legends say that one ruler, Prokas, had two sons - Numitor and Amuli. The throne had to go to Numitor, but his brother, having envied, deceitfully deposed him from the throne. Soon the daughter of the ousted emperor, the vestal Rhea Sylvia, gave birth to twins. This was unheard of and the woman was punished, for she was sentenced to death for violating the vow of chastity. The god Mars was proclaimed the father of Romulus and Remus, but this did not save the unfortunates from the persecution of Amoulius. The girl was starved to death, and the children were thrown into the Tiber River.
The story of Romulus and Remus on this should have beenend, but because they were not in vain divine babies. Water carried the basket with children under the Palatine Hill, where she caught on a fig tree. The wolf came to the cry of the hungry boys, and she fed them with her milk. However, the she-wolf was not the only animal by whom Romulus and Remus were raised. When the wolf cubs drank all the milk, a woodpecker, a bird dedicated to Mars, helped the children. He brought wild berries and fruits, which helped them avoid starvation.
Once a royal shepherd named Favstul sawhow animals feed the children in the thickets. Waiting for the departure of the she-wolf and the woodpecker, he took the twins home, because he had no children with his wife. Therefore, the question of who brought up Romulus and Rem, we can safely answer that they grew up in a simple family. During one scuffle between the shepherds of Numitor and Amuli, the brothers were captured and brought to the grandfather. To attract settlers, the ruler declares the Capitol Grove a refuge for everyone. It attracted runaway slaves, robbers and other criminals, the city grew and became powerful. Romulus wisely ruled his city, cleverly lured women here, expanded its boundaries. According to legend, the king disappeared during one holiday: the gods took him to him.
