Even before the official release of the long-awaitedthe fourth season of the popular television series "Game of Thrones" it became known that a Russian actor would participate in the project for the first time ever. Yuri Kolokolnikov received the role of Stir, the leader of cannibals Tenn.
Despite the furore that made this newsin the Russian media, only some fans of the series are aware that another famous person who speaks Russian is directly involved in the creation of the series. Sakharov Alik, who directed two episodes in the new season, was born in Uzbekistan and emigrated to the United States many years ago.
Although he did not receive any formaleducation in the field of cinema, Sakharov was able to find work in his favorite area. He shot several episodes in such prestigious television series as The Clan Soprano, Underground Empire, Dexter, and Game of Thrones.
The beginning of the way
According to the man, he was absolutely not ready forAmerican life, when in 1981 he emigrated to the United States, barely reaching the age of 22 years. He did not even speak English, but he was determined to do everything in his power so as not to stay on the street and earn a living. Sakharov Alik managed to change a dozen work places, working part-time now at a gas station, now as a private cleaner, until he got a permanent place and did not become watchmakers.
The director admits that he lacksacademic knowledge of cinema, but he was interested in cinema from an early age and many times revised the legendary films of Soviet masters, starting with the classics of Andrei Tarkovsky and ending with the works of Alexander Dovzhenko.
Back in the Soviet Union, Sakharov tried to shootamateur movie. And in the United States, earning on repairing hours enough to acquire the necessary equipment, he began to offer businessmen services in the production of industrial video. Over time, large companies recognized the talent of the new American, and Sakharov Alik was able to devote all his time to his hobby.
First picture
Industrial videos and commercials moved tothe second plan, when in 1992 Sakharov shot his first artistic picture. It was a silent black and white film "Pause", which the future master was inspired by the works of Andrei Tarkovsky. Until now, he considers Pause to be his best creation. Assessing Alik's directorial skills, HBO invited him to take part in the filming of the television series Clan Soprano. This project has significantly advanced a novice up the career ladder.

"Game of Thrones" is a kind of creation of many hundreds of people involved in the cinema, and Alik himself is quite sober and pragmatic about the series. He recognizes the uniqueness of the storyline and the epic scope of the story, but every time he reminds journalists: “Game of Thrones” is just an excellent series. At the same time, "Underground Empire" is also an excellent series. And the "Soprano Clan" - no worse.
