В нашем обществе принято всегда помнить о celebrations related to the armed forces or military events, and celebrate them with a related scope. Memorable dates associated with civil and civil affairs are often little known or undeservedly forgotten. For example, few people know when the International Day of Civil Aviation. The article describes the role of the holiday for Russia and the whole world, its history and established traditions.
The value of the holiday for the global community
Celebrations dedicated to the Day of Civil Aviation in all countries of the world are held annually on December 7. This holiday is not officially recognized as a day off.
Сегодня можно смело утверждать, что авиация occupies an important position in the history of the development of each country. After all, it performs the functions of transportation of citizens and freight, as well as the protection of the territories of the country. In the event of a military conflict, the presence of aviation is a significant advantage over the enemy.
Who is dedicated to the holiday
Civil aviation is a much broader concept than simple transportation of passengers.
On the Day of Civil Aviation, not only pilots of aircraft and flight attendants, but also other employees deserve warm words and congratulations:
- mechanics and technical workers, aircraft designers, whose genius makes multi-ton machines rise into the air;
- airport workers;
- teachers of specialized educational institutions;
- civil servants, workers in the industry and many others.
All together and individually, they are involved in the fact that civil aviation was and remains the most important component of the transport system throughout the world and in the Russian Federation in particular.
What is ICAO (ICAO)
International Civil Aviation Organization (rus.ICAO) - the International Civil Aviation Organization, it appeared simultaneously with the adoption of the Chicago Convention in the same 1944. In fact, ICAO is a specialized body whose goal is to streamline and regulate the flights of civilian ships, regulate freight and passenger traffic, and develop uniform norms and standards in civil aviation.
The headquarters of the organization is located in Montreal, Canada. Our country joined ICAO in 1970.
Today, 192 countries are members of this organization, in which they also annually celebrate the day of civil aviation.
ICAO’s area of responsibility is quite extensive. In her competence are:
- The division of world airspace into flight information regions, the boundaries of which are determined taking into account navigation capabilities.
- Coordination of cooperation on international freight and passenger traffic.
- Assigning individual four-letter identifier codes to airports in the world to transmit navigation and meteorological information.
- Development of flight plans.
- Designation of civil airfields on maps, etc.
The role of civil aviation in the world: statistics and interesting facts
In 2017, the ICAO President outlined severalaspects due to which civil aviation remains the most important means of socio-economic development of both a separate state and the world community as a whole. For example, daily air civilian ships transport more than 10 million passengers, every day more than 100 thousand flights are recorded.
If we consider even more globally, then from 1.4a billion tourists each year more than half use air transport as a means of transportation around the world. The scale of these figures helps to understand how air transport provides 63.5 million jobs annually and why more than 2.7 trillion US dollars are spent on it.
Air potential is undoubtedly important fora single state, but it plays an especially decisive role in the countries located on the islands, or, conversely, not having access to the sea. It is civil aviation that helps to increase the volume of freight, tourism and trade, and thus contribute to their economic prosperity.
The history of the holiday and the role of the UN in its approval
В далеком 1944 году, 7 декабря, в городе Чикаго, which is located in Illinois, USA, representatives of 52 states decided to sign the convention. Its purpose was to establish and regulate the basic principles of international aviation. For example:
- determine the nationality of the aircraft;
- establish international aviation standards, rules of flight over the territory of the State party and others.
Initially the convention was drawn up onEnglish, but in 1968 authentic texts were adopted for France and Spain in their native languages. The Russian-language analogue was adopted in 1977, but entered into legal force almost 22 years later, in 1999.
In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Convention inIn 1994, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution establishing the International Civil Aviation Day on December 7. States parties to the convention were invited to take the necessary measures in order to spread this memorable day among the population, thereby denoting the merits of aviation to society.
Traditions
The Day of Civil Aviation in Russia is marked by the organization of festive events. Although he is not recognized as a general holiday, among employees it is customary to congratulate each other.
Bosses award workers with certificates andthanks, write out the award and give gifts. At the end of the working day, employees organize parties and corporate parties, as well as receive congratulations and wishes.
Television also contains solemn speeches and shows of thematic and documentary films that tell about the formation, development and importance of modern aviation.
Civil Aviation Day in Russia
Unlike the world community, in RussiaIt is customary to celebrate the holiday on February 9. On this day, almost a hundred years ago (in 1923), in the young Soviet Union, a resolution was adopted “On the assignment of technical supervision of air lines to the headquarters of the air fleet and on the organization of the Council on Civil Aviation”. Translating the abstruse title of the document into a simple human language, one can say that it was a matter of creating an airborne civil fleet and an organization that regulates freight and passenger transportation.
“Dobrolet” is such a good name in all senses of the air transport organization established in the same year.
Holiday History in Russia
Первый воздушный маршрут был проложен от Москвы to Nizhny Novgorod. The Soviet ANT-1 aircraft without problems overcame an impressive distance of 420 km at that time. An interesting fact: at that time there were no civilian pilots, as well as specialized educational institutions. Military pilots, who were forced to undergo retraining on an expedited basis, took full responsibility.
Finally as a civilian air structureAviation took shape 9 years later, in 1932 a new flag appeared, employees began to wear a uniform identifying their profession, and Dobrolet became known to all of us by Aeroflot.
Soviet civil aviation developedcontinuously: the routes to be overcome increased, the skills of the pilots were perfected (the whole world knows such names as V. Chkalov, A. Tupolev and others), jet aircraft appeared.
During the Great Patriotic War all the forces and resources of civil aviationwere thrown into the fight against the fascist invaders: the delivery of food, the necessary medicines, and the delivery of weapons to the Soviet Army.
In 1979, the leadership of the USSR decided to establish the Day of Civil Aviation or the day of "Aeroflot". In our time, the latter is considered a separate holiday and is celebrated in August.
Other memorable dates related to aviation and air fleet
In addition to the international day of the civil aviation worker discussed in the article, employees and employees of this sphere also celebrate other no less significant holidays:
- December 23 - the holiday is celebrated by servicemen called to protect the air borders of our state, established in the late 90s - the Day of Long-Range Aviation;
- June 1 is the day of military transport aviation;
- July 17th is the day of naval aviation;
- August 12 - the day of the Russian Air Force;
- The 3rd Sunday of August is the day of the air fleet of the Russian Federation.
It can be said that the appearance of the air fleet is a significant achievement in the development of each country; therefore, it is customary to celebrate such a milestone in history throughout the world.
