Who is dedicated to the holiday

Civil aviation is a much broader concept than simple transportation of passengers.

On the Day of Civil Aviation, not only pilots of aircraft and flight attendants, but also other employees deserve warm words and congratulations:

  • mechanics and technical workers, aircraft designers, whose genius makes multi-ton machines rise into the air;
  • airport workers;
  • teachers of specialized educational institutions;
  • civil servants, workers in the industry and many others.

All together and individually, they are involved in the fact that civil aviation was and remains the most important component of the transport system throughout the world and in the Russian Federation in particular.

International Day of Civil Aviation

What is ICAO (ICAO)

International Civil Aviation Organization (rus.ICAO) - the International Civil Aviation Organization, it appeared simultaneously with the adoption of the Chicago Convention in the same 1944. In fact, ICAO is a specialized body whose goal is to streamline and regulate the flights of civilian ships, regulate freight and passenger traffic, and develop uniform norms and standards in civil aviation.

The headquarters of the organization is located in Montreal, Canada. Our country joined ICAO in 1970.

Today, 192 countries are members of this organization, in which they also annually celebrate the day of civil aviation.

ICAO’s area of responsibility is quite extensive. In her competence are:

  1. The division of world airspace into flight information regions, the boundaries of which are determined taking into account navigation capabilities.
  2. Coordination of cooperation on international freight and passenger traffic.
  3. Assigning individual four-letter identifier codes to airports in the world to transmit navigation and meteorological information.
  4. Development of flight plans.
  5. Designation of civil airfields on maps, etc.

The role of civil aviation in the world: statistics and interesting facts

In 2017, the ICAO President outlined severalaspects due to which civil aviation remains the most important means of socio-economic development of both a separate state and the world community as a whole. For example, daily air civilian ships transport more than 10 million passengers, every day more than 100 thousand flights are recorded.

If we consider even more globally, then from 1.4a billion tourists each year more than half use air transport as a means of transportation around the world. The scale of these figures helps to understand how air transport provides 63.5 million jobs annually and why more than 2.7 trillion US dollars are spent on it.

Air potential is undoubtedly important fora single state, but it plays an especially decisive role in the countries located on the islands, or, conversely, not having access to the sea. It is civil aviation that helps to increase the volume of freight, tourism and trade, and thus contribute to their economic prosperity.

Civil Aviation Day in Russia

Unlike the world community, in RussiaIt is customary to celebrate the holiday on February 9. On this day, almost a hundred years ago (in 1923), in the young Soviet Union, a resolution was adopted “On the assignment of technical supervision of air lines to the headquarters of the air fleet and on the organization of the Council on Civil Aviation”. Translating the abstruse title of the document into a simple human language, one can say that it was a matter of creating an airborne civil fleet and an organization that regulates freight and passenger transportation.

“Dobrolet” is such a good name in all senses of the air transport organization established in the same year.

Holiday History in Russia

Первый воздушный маршрут был проложен от Москвы to Nizhny Novgorod. The Soviet ANT-1 aircraft without problems overcame an impressive distance of 420 km at that time. An interesting fact: at that time there were no civilian pilots, as well as specialized educational institutions. Military pilots, who were forced to undergo retraining on an expedited basis, took full responsibility.

Finally as a civilian air structureAviation took shape 9 years later, in 1932 a new flag appeared, employees began to wear a uniform identifying their profession, and Dobrolet became known to all of us by Aeroflot.

Soviet civil aviation developedcontinuously: the routes to be overcome increased, the skills of the pilots were perfected (the whole world knows such names as V. Chkalov, A. Tupolev and others), jet aircraft appeared.

During the Great Patriotic War all the forces and resources of civil aviationwere thrown into the fight against the fascist invaders: the delivery of food, the necessary medicines, and the delivery of weapons to the Soviet Army.

In 1979, the leadership of the USSR decided to establish the Day of Civil Aviation or the day of "Aeroflot". In our time, the latter is considered a separate holiday and is celebrated in August.
