Komarovskoye village cemetery emerged recently,it was small, but gradually it grew - it, along with local summer residents, began to bury famous writers, actors, artists, cultural and scientific figures. The graves of the intelligentsia now occupy a decent area - there are about 200 of them.
History of the Finnish Cemetery
Until the 80s of the 19th century in the village of Kellomäki(Komarovo) no one lived. Sandy dry soil, completely unsuitable for agriculture and agriculture, covered with pine forest mixed with marshy areas, was unattractive to people.
After laying the Finnish railway inthe first dachas began to be built in a picturesque place by the lake Shchuchye. Petersburgers from the train windows admired the natural splendor of these places, and there was a demand for the construction of country houses in the Kellomäk area. By 1910, about 600 dachas were built in the village, it grew so much that it became necessary to build a railway platform, which a year later received station status. The terrain in Finnish was called Hirvi-suo, translated as “moose marsh”.
Not far from the swamp with the same namethere was a sandy hill on which a large bell was hung during the construction of the railway. The builders nicknamed this hill "Kello-chaff", translated into Russian "bell mountain." From the name of the hill and got their name railway station and holiday village.
The population of the village of Kellomäki consisted not only ofPetersburg summer residents, as well as from residents of Finland. The settlement was built according to a strict scheme developed by Elias Augustus Piponius. Two straight streets, Merikatu (Morskaya) and Kauppakatu (Shopnaya), were laid to the north and south of the railway station, they were crossed by a street parallel to the railroad - Valtakatu (Bolshaya Street). Along it were the most expensive dacha plots, as it overlooks the bay. In some cottages the owners lived all year round.
After the revolution of 1917, many cottages and plotswere abandoned, about 600 cottages of them were sold and dismantled for export to the territory near Helsinki. There are only a few summer cottages, most of which were destroyed during the war. The country houses that have survived to our days in Komarovo are mostly post-war buildings.
Elderly gardeners living in the village, sometimesthey died, they were buried not far from the cottages, as a result a cemetery was arranged, the oldest burial of which of the extant - 1915 - composer VE Savinsky. The area of the cemetery was small - only 1 hectare.
In 1944 there were about ten Finnish graves and three Russians. Tombstones at these graves were not, crosses mounted on them, were cast-iron and dark. The cemetery was not fenced.
Revival of the village and the cemetery in Komarovo
A new history of the dacha settlement began in 1945of the year. The Soviet leadership drew attention to the magnificent places and an attractive village on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. The villas, which survived the war, were repaired and handed over to Leningrad art and science workers. Here a botanist VL Komarov lived for several months. The village was named in his honor in 1948. It was built about 25 cottages and transferred to the use of members of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
Since the end of the 1940s, the village of Komarovo has become a favorite resting place of the Leningrad intelligentsia. Here the homes of creative work of architects, writers, filmmakers, and composers appear chaotically.
With the revival of life in the village, the graves were resumed at Komarovsky cemetery of St. Petersburg. The main part of the burials refers to the period of the 1950s.
March 9, 1966 A.Akhmatova was buried here. With her burial, the cemetery becomes an attraction of the Leningrad region, and it is sometimes called Akhmatovsky.
