This article will discuss how to properlyuse wide-angle lenses. Some features of their work are also considered. Very often, wide-angle lenses are used for the following purposes:
- When landscapes want to expand a large space, for example, removing the view of the city.
- When the photographer is desirable to go unnoticed, shooting on the street.
Canon's wide-angle lenses have a diagonal field of view of 100 degrees and a width of 88 degrees (the usual 35-millimeter frame).
How do wide-angle lenses work? Their features

Thus, the effect of an active spot will be created, for which the viewer can catch the eye.
- When using wide-angle lenses,Optical distortion may occur. This barrel distortion (distortion). They appear on the periphery of the frame. But do not argue that the quality of the photo is deteriorating due to this effect. Sometimes it's the other way around. The composition in the picture looks more comfortable with the help of barrel distortion. If you do not want to bend space, then take a closer look, so that there are no trees or corners of houses around the edges. They are strongly bent. The camera must be kept exactly horizontal, because there will be blockages of verticals.
- Wide-angle lenses have enhanced"flakability". Therefore, you need to monitor the location of the sun when shooting on a sunny day. If possible, use a hood. If your equipment does not yet have it, then you will have a little difficulty. Due to the large size of the wide angles (77 mm and more), it is difficult to select the hood and filter. If you find them, they will cost you a decent amount.
- Wide-angle lenses for Canon, combined withshort-focus lens, have the specifics of using a polarization filter. Since the sky has an uneven polarization at a wide angle, a dark blue spot will appear on it. If you want to shoot a horizontal landscape with the sky, then the wide-angle is not recommended to use with a polarizer. If you still want to try, then you should opt for polarization light filters with a narrow retaining ring. They are made specifically for wide-angle lenses and do not allow shading to get into the corner of the frame.
