Automotive spark plugs are partIgnition system, which is a contact (common on older cars) and electronic. In addition to the spark, providing a spark, thanks to which the piston of a gasoline engine moves, the ignition system (contact) consists of a battery, electrical wires of different voltages, a generator, an ignition coil, an interrupter, a distributor, a condenser and an ignition lock.
Spark plugs play an important role in the workengine, and the slightest failure in their operation affects the power, the engine begins to "troit" (if only three of the four cylinders work), fuel consumption increases, in some cases there is a likelihood of engine detonation. In order to avoid such situations, the replacement of the spark plugs must be made after a run of approximately 30 thousand kilometers or as needed.
Most car models found onRussian market, allow you to replace the candles yourself. To do this, in most cars you need to open the engine, remove the air filter, disconnect the ignition using the key. Using a special candle key, you need to unscrew all the candles and subject them to inspection.
A good copy can be seen immediately - it is differentthe absence of soot, even, most often brown color on the "skirt" of the insulator. The presence of carbon on the parts does not mean that the replacement of spark plugs will be absolutely necessary. In some cases, this indicates that the engine runs on rich blends, but an oily black coating implies that the part should be changed. Replacing the spark plugs is necessary if there are traces of aluminum melting or electrodes are damaged or bent.
For full confidence in the quality of the candle workneed to check on a special tester, stand, equipped with a barometric camera or piezo-pistol for correct sparking and correct, if necessary, the gap between the additional and the main electrode in accordance with factory recommendations. The optimum is a gap of about 1.5 mm, and this value can be reached either by narrowing the gap (by tapping gently on the side electrode) or by expanding it by means of equally careful bending.
After adjusting the work of the old or selectionThe new set, the candles are screwed into place, the ignition is connected to them, the filter is installed back, the engine is closed and checked. In an ordinary car, this operation can be done independently in about 15 minutes. Masters of car service will do it, of course, faster, and at the same time almost always there is such a service as the choice of spark plugs. It all depends on the client.
Spark plugs must be replaced atthe basis of the characteristics specified in the technical passport of the machine. When changing them, they are either installed exactly the same as specified in the factory documents, or it is allowed to replace these parts with copies of other manufacturers that have the required characteristics. If the motorist wants the spark plugs to serve longer, then he can choose options with a side electrode with platinum inserts, or models with several side electrodes (if any).
Important characteristics of the candle when choosing itare the following: the length and diameter of the thread, as well as the heat number. If it is short, the products of combustion will settle on the thread of the head, and a normal candle will be very difficult to install later. And if it is long, the same elements will settle on the candle, which will lead to the need for engine overhaul. A candle of an inappropriate diameter will not be easy (impossible) to screw in, and an incorrect heat rating will lead to carbon deposits, early wear of candles, engine failures.
