The drug "Arifon retard" belongs to the categoryantihypertensive (diuretic) agents, sulfonamide derivatives. The active ingredient is indapamide hemihydrate. The drug helps increase the release of chloride ions, sodium, to a lesser extent - magnesium and potassium ions - in the urine, which is accompanied by an increase in diuresis. The drug has an antihypertensive effect in dosages that do not exert a pronounced diuretic effect. Activity of the drug is also associated with the ability to lower the OPSS and increase the elasticity of arterial walls. The medicine provokes a decrease in hypertrophy in the left ventricle of the heart. On the basis of monotherapy, the antihypertensive effect of the remedy is noted throughout the day after administration.

Contraindications
No medicine is prescribed for hepaticencephalopathy, insufficiency of renal activity of severe course, hypokalemia. The medication "Arifon retard" is not recommended (the instruction on the use warns about it) simultaneously with the means, contributing to the elongation of the QT-interval. Contraindications include individual intolerance of components. The medicine is not prescribed during the prenatal period and during lactation. It should be borne in mind that the medication is capable of provoking fetoplacental ischemia, leading to abnormalities in fetal development.
Dosing regimen
The drug is taken per tablet per day. It is advisable to drink the medicine in the morning.

On the basis of therapy, a decrease in the concentrationpotassium and the appearance of hypokalemia on this background (in particular, this phenomenon can be expressed in patients at risk). Patients may also experience hyponatremia, complicated by hypovolemia, orthostatic hypotension, dehydration of the body. In rare cases, there is an increase in the content of calcium in the body. During the reception of the Arifon retard (instructions for use indicate this), pancreatitis may develop, dry mouth, thrombocytopenia, anemia (hemolytic, aplastic including), an increase in plasma glucose and urea, constipation, nausea. On the grounds of intolerance, allergic skin manifestations in the form of rashes, itching, burning or irritation of the cover are likely.
