The city of Krasnoyarsk has its officially approved symbols at the state level: the emblem and flag. It is about them, their appearance and significance that will be discussed in this article.
Krasnoyarsk flag
Флаг Красноярска был официально принят в 2004 September 29th. It looks like a rectangular canvas, divided into four equal parts by yellow stripes. On the top right and bottom left are the rectangles of blue, and the remaining places, respectively, red. In the center of the cloth is located the coat of arms of the city of Krasnoyarsk. It depicts a shield and a gilded lion holding tools (shovel and sickle).
Meaning of flag colors
The official meaning of the colors on the flag is known:
- red is determination, strength and courage;
- yellow (gold) represents wealth, abundance and wealth;
- blue color means grandeur and beauty;
- rage and courage symbolizes the lion.
Prior to the approval of the final version of the flag in September 2004, the shield was crowned with a crown of five fortress towers, bordered at the bottom with a wreath of bay leaves. But the crown was abolished.
Creation of a coat of arms

New coat of arms of Krasnoyarsk, depicting the goldthe lion with the tools on the red shield, was approved in 1851 on November 23. The predator was a symbol of courage and strength, and the sickle and shovel personify agriculture and gold mining - the main occupations of people in the city located on the banks of the Yenisei. It was the main center of gold mining in Siberia. In 1859, three towers appeared above the shield, and behind it crossed hammers with the Alexander Ribbon. So the city of Krasnoyarsk received a new symbolism, which existed until 1994. Subsequently, the hammers and tape were removed.
Modern coat of arms
In 2007, the Krasnoyarsk city council approvedthe final version of the coat of arms, that is how we know it now. A silver horse and a unicorn appeared on the image, holding a shield on both sides. Every detail of the solemn coat of arms has its own meaning, which is officially documented:
- the unicorn is a symbol of purity;
- a horse - of might and courage;
- silver personifies the snowy expanses of Siberia and the pure thoughts of the inhabitants of the city;
- the crown means the primacy of the city in its region;
- a plant pattern under the shield was used in folk art;
- ribbon means awarding the city with the Order of the Great October Revolution;
- the red color personifies the unique beauty of nature, as well as the diligence of the residents of Krasnoyarsk;
- golden color - the welfare, prosperity and wealth of the city.
The coat of arms of Krasnoyarsk remains unchanged until the present time.
Terms of use of the coat of arms

In government offices, officesofficials, schools and universities of Krasnoyarsk must be placed the official symbols of the city, along with the flag of the Russian Federation. Respect and pride in a centuries-old history are brought up in the younger generation, and the coat of arms and flag of Krasnoyarsk are revered by all locals.
The development of patriotism should be carried out in eacheducational institution. It is impossible for children to forget about what Russia and its own region had to go through in order to achieve well-being and prosperity. State symbols should know everything, that is why many history teachers prefer to conduct visual lessons, inviting students to local history museums. This is the only way to tell the younger generation about why we need a flag and a coat of arms. Many children themselves are interested in historical references. Fortunately, the development of the Internet allows you to expand your horizons with little or no extra expenses. Such zeal should be supported by adults. After all, remembering the story, you can avoid the great wars and chaos.
