Koltsov Square (Voronezh): the history of creation
In the middle of the XIX century on the site of a modern squarewas army parade ground. After the decision to transform it in the vacated territory, they decided to make a green recreation area for the citizens. This is how a well-developed park appeared on this site. A little later, it was decided to install a sculptural composition in it. In 1868 a monument to the poet Alexei Koltsov, who was born in Voronezh, was completed. The artist-architect Alexander Cui and the sculptor Avgustino Triskorni worked on the creation of the monument. The sculpture became the second largest and largest in the city, and the square chosen for its installation was called Koltsovsky.
Periods of prosperity and decline
Originally from large sites on sitethe square was only a stable and a fire tower. Everything changed in 1877, it was then that a fountain appeared in the park. All residents of the city came to see the novelty, and the square became a real attraction. In fairness it should be noted that the fountain had a fairly simple design and minimal decor, but the objects of this type themselves were rare for their time. Not all districts of Voronezh could boast their own water ornaments. Due to this, the central fountain has become incredibly popular. However, in 1900 the park was partially abandoned, and this fact caused great discontent among the residents of the city. Due to the numerous complaints of the townspeople, the local government had to re-do the landscaping again and strengthen the security of the facility. But despite the return to the square of the original form, in the 20s of the 20th century, according to the old residents, the flea market periodically took place here and there was no perfect cleanliness.
Park during and after the war
If you visit today Voronezh, Koltsovthe square will seem to you a place peaceful and calm. However, this was not always the case. During the Great Patriotic War, German soldiers buried their comrades who had fallen on the battlefield on its territory. And immediately after the liberation of the city, the park looked pitiable, representing one large cemetery with lop-sided, hastily made crosses. Fortunately, today only a few photos remind of those times, which have lost their colors from time to time. After the war, the city administration decided to rebuild the remains and return the square to the townspeople. Many other districts of Voronezh were restored on a similar principle.
Fountain in Koltsovsky Square
В 1973 году фонтан в Кольцовском сквере был subjected to large-scale reconstruction. A new sculpture was made based on the poem "stolen sun." In the center there is a crocodile, children dance around it, and on top of the kids they pour water over the fish. But the transformations did not end there, and already in 1977 the fountain became light-music. It is worth noting that the illumination of water cascades with colored lamps at that time also only began to be used in our country. Nowadays, the object works not only in summer, but also in winter - in cold weather, instead of water, you can admire LED strips that change the brightness of the glow in time with the music. Nowadays, one of the most interesting sights in the city center is the fountain in Koltsovsky Square.
