This glorious Russian city is recognized as the cradle of the great Russian navy, founded by Tsar Peter I.
From the history
One day in 1688, young Peter I in one ofthe outbuildings of the royal manor discovered the old bot "Saint Nicholas". Today it is in honorable storage at the Naval Museum in our northern capital. Frequently, history buffs ask the question: “What is the name of Peter the Great 1?” So, this very vessel was later called the “Grandfather of the Russian Fleet”.
On this boat, the young king began to master the subtletiesship control on the river Yauza. When the country's navy appeared in the beginning of the 17th century and the first victories were won, the tsar of All Russia ordered the small ship to be transported to Petersburg and issued a decree on this occasion.
Solemnly on the Neva and the Gulf of Finlandmet, including ambassadors of foreign states. The great reformer-tsar himself stood at the helm, fleet admirals were at the oars. The “grandfather of the Russian fleet” was greeted with firing from guns, drumming. By decree of Peter it was necessary to keep forever the ships on which he began to study maritime affairs.
Amusing flotilla
In 1688 Peter I came to Pereslavl and was fascinated by the size and beauty of Plescheev Lake. The sixteen-year-old king decided to build here a funny fleet.
To study the ship case from Holland the best masters were written out. The young king himself took the most active part in building ships.
In the spring of 1689 the first was launched.the ship, and in the summer of 1692 there were already many ships in the shipyard. They were equipped with artillery. On them amusing troops of the sovereign were trained in the conduct of hostilities and navigation.
Death of amusing fleet
As a result of the strongest fire in 1783, allships of the flotilla burned. Only the Fortune bot survived, which, according to legend, was built by Peter I. He was kept indoors on Mount Gremyach, not far from the royal Palace, and did not stand on the lake with other ships.
In 1803 year I.M.Dolgorukov, the Vladimir governor, ordered the construction of a building in which the Fortuna bot could be stored. This was the beginning of its history of the Museum “Boat of Peter 1”, which preserved the ship built by Peter the Great for posterity and history.

The opening of the monument
In early August 1850, the Great Princes Mikhail Nikolayevich and Nikolai Nikolayevich, passing Pereslavl and examining the remains of the flotilla, laid the foundation stone for the granite monument to Peter I.
Two years later, a triumphal arch was built, which was consecrated in 1852. From above the arch is decorated with military sea fittings.
В этом же году архитектором П. С.Campioni was erected a majestic monument to Peter I. The inhabitants of Pereslavl and nearby villages were present at the opening ceremony of the obelisk. In addition, guests arrived from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir and many other cities.
The 4th battalion of the Egersky regiment of the city of Uglich and the 2nd battery of the 16th brigade took part in the celebrations. The Maritime Office was represented by the Grand Duke M.I. Golitsyn.
On the rise to the museum there is a more “young” monument to Peter I, created in 1992 according to the project of A. D. Kazachka. The sculptural composition depicts a young king.
White Palace
Museum "Boat of Peter 1" presents its guestsbeautiful palace. It was founded in 1853 and was intended for dinner parties, receptions, balls. The White Palace was built on the donations of citizens. To keep the house empty, nobles and merchants of Pereslavl organized here “Pereslavl assemblies”. In the summer, lovers of dancing and card games gathered in the Palace.
After the revolution (1917) in the White Palace opened a geographical station of Moscow State University. In the thirties, the famous Soviet writer M. Prishvin worked here. In the late twenties Kukryniksy visited the Palace.
At the end of the 1930s, a rest house for local workers opened in the building. During the Great Patriotic War, two orphanages were transferred from the besieged Leningrad to the White Palace.
Museum today
In May 2012, the Botica Peter 1 Museum opened afterlong reconstruction. Visitors were presented with the exposition “At the Beginning of Glorious Affairs”, which covers a long period, starting with the creation of a funny fleet until the arrival of Emperor Nicholas II (1913) to these places.

The second hall of the Museum “Boat of Peter 1” presents the reconstruction of one room of the Peter Palace. Here you can see pieces of furniture and utensils of Peter the Great, portraits of the royal dynasty.
The third hall of the museum is dedicated to all who took part in the reconstruction and reconstruction of the estate in the XIX century.
Reconstruction of the boat of Peter I
It must be said that many moderncraftsmen seek to create a ship from the flotilla of Peter I, using old drawings. Boat Peter 1 was made in Petrozavodsk. The construction was timed to the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet. The creation of the vessel was the original diploma work of ten young and talented masters, graduates of the school at the IICC.

It is represented by various works of art, in which famous masters perpetuated the vivid image of the Tsar-reformer. Peter I appears in different images - from the Tsar Carpenter to the "Roman Emperor", whose head is crowned with a laurel wreath.
Boat "Fortune"
Уникальным экспонатом, которым по праву гордится Museum "Boat of Peter 1" in Pereslavl, is the bot "Fortune" - the last ship to survive the fire. Judging by the chronicles, the bot is made by the hands of the young Peter I. The material used is pine, oak. Its length is 7.34 m. The width of the vessel is 2.38 m. It is a single-mast ten-boat dutch type boat. In the manufacture of the boat was carefully primed, coated with resin, and then painted.
