Ulyanovsk is one of the few Russian cities where two airports operate. The most significant of them is the airport "Ulyanovsk-Central".
About the Airport
Ulyanovsk airport is located within the city limits. It is also known under a different name - Barataevka, because it is located not far from the village of the same name.
The construction of the airfield complex began in 1925. At that time, the fleet consisted of 10 aircraft. After 10 years, specialized courses on higher flight training were opened on its base.
The building of the air terminal was started in 1955.Then the airport was able to serve a small passenger traffic - only 50 people for an hour. In the 70s, a new airport building was built, which made it possible to serve up to 400 passengers per hour. The aerial node provided communication between Ulyanovsk and all major cities of the USSR.
Reconstruction of the whole complex was carried out by 2013. The infrastructure was also modernized.
At the moment, flights from the airport are carried out by airlines "RusLine", "UTair", "VimAvia", "RedVings", "Dexter".
The airport is a two-story building.On the ground floor there is a luggage system, a pre-flight inspection zone, a waiting room, a medical station, ticket offices and places for passengers to relax. On the second floor there are two cafes, a waiting room, a sterile and pre-flight inspection zone, administrative and technical rooms.
Airport "Ulyanovsk-Tsentralny" is one of the dynamically developing air transport regional hubs and is of federal importance.
