Who is Opryshk Dovbush

He is called the Carpathian Robin Hood.Since the fifteenth century, the feudal lords began to enslave the population of the Carpathians. Wanting to remain free and protesting against serfdom, many young people went into the mountain forests and formed partisan detachments. Such rebels were called opryshkami. They looted estates, burned documents on the land and peasants' debt receipts. Legends say that the excessive riches of the feudal lords were given to the poor and have-nots. Such detachments existed throughout the Carpathian region - in Galicia, Pokut'e, Bukovina, Red Russia. The opryk movement reached a special scale in the eighteenth century, when it was headed by Oleksa (Alexey) Dovbush. He was born around 1700 in the village of Pechenezhin, in a poor Hutsul family. In childhood he was mute. The speechlessness was given to him by Malfar (sorcerer) Yosyp Yavny. Already in his youth, Dovbush headed the movement of the opryshk, which covered the whole edge - on both sides of the Carpathians. Oleksa acted together with his brother Ivan. The goods confiscated from the magnates were distributed to the poor. Olexa was treacherously murdered by Stepan Dzvinciuk, a resident of the village of Kosmachi. Judah, in addition to the reward that Polish gentry promised for Dovbush’s head, coveted money, which Oleks did not have. Opryshka remained to live in people's memory. There are many stories and legends about the local Robin Hood. Dovbush rocks are named after him, although there is no documented evidence that the opryshkas were hidden here.

Nature of western Ukraine

Geological Monument of Nature

Когда-то на этом месте плескалось мелкое Paleogene Sea. Seventy million years ago, the continental plates began to rise. Over time, the former bottom rose to a height of six hundred and seventy meters above the level of the modern oceans. The soft rocks were gradually washed out by the rains, until a group of rocky outcrops was formed, which in the toponymy bears the name Oleksa Dovbush. They are composed of compressed sandstone. Rock remnants reach a height of eighty meters. A stone maze 200 m wide stretches among the beech-fir forest from west to east for nearly one kilometer.

Historical monument

Ивано-Франковская область богата sights. But the cave rock complex is able to indulge in popularity with the mountain Hoverla (the highest point of Ukraine), the ski resort Bukovel and Manyavsky monastery. Indeed, in addition to an interesting monument of nature, these remnants are also a historical landmark. Traces of permanent residence of people here belong to the sixth or seventh centuries of our era. The fact that the caves in the sandstone are man-made leaves no doubt. Perhaps they were whipped out by white Croats. An ancient settlement from three sides covers the rocks, and from the fourth it is enclosed by a shaft and a moat. The walls of the caves are covered with solar signs. Steps are cut in some rocks. There is a burial ground near the settlement. To revive tourism in Ukraine, the government is thinking of restoring the famous historical complex.
