The term "ufology" today is often found inMASS MEDIA. Its meaning is not always clear to ordinary people. What is ufology? Is it science or unrecognized hobby of groups of people around the world? We will try to find the right answers to these questions.
Ufology: Is it a science?
Very often you can find an explanation of the termbeginning with the phrase: "Ufology is the science of ...". However, in Russia, a special commission dealing with the struggle against pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research under the presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences does not recognize the “scientificness” of ufology. The thing is that this area of knowledge and research does not have a number of signs that any science should possess.
The term "ufology" appeared in the middle of the past.Century in the United States. It was at that time that a large-scale study of UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) began in this state. From this abbreviation the word "ufology" appeared.
Today, ufologists have a different status indifferent countries of the world. But more often, researchers do not recognize these data. Any science should have a clearly marked subject of study. In Ufology, eyewitness reports of UFO sightings and material objects that are supposedly evidence of the appearance of these very objects are examined. At the same time, over the years of hard work, the fact of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and their visits by representatives of our planet has not been proven.
Science must have a number of methods regularlyused to study the subject. Ufologists also do not comply with this rule - each of them uses its own technology to verify the testimony of witnesses to unexplained phenomena and to determine the authenticity of the available evidence. Theories explaining the origin and essence of UFOs are recognized by official science as pseudoscientific. The reason for this definition is the impossibility of proving inexplicable phenomena and carefully studying them. Accordingly, the correct definition of the term "ufology": this is an activity aimed at gathering information and studying the UFO phenomenon.
The first mention of the "flying saucers"
Many ufologists believe that aliensperiodically visit our planet from ancient times. As evidence of this, the followers of this theory mention paleokanths - preserved to our days drawings made at the dawn of the dawn of human civilization, illustrating contacts with representatives of non-terrestrial races. Ancient Egyptian papyruses dating from the 16th century BC are considered the oldest "evidence" of encounters with aliens from space. e. (the reign of Pharaoh Thutmosis III). The founder of the theory of the historical connection of human civilizations with extraterrestrial is considered to be the Soviet scientist K.E. Tsiolkovsky. What is curious, the stories about UFOs and aliens from space are found in the stories of various nations dating back to different times. This is one of the arguments of those who believe that ufology is a serious science, which today simply lacks evidence.
Modern history of ufology
In the middle of last century in the United States began to appearreports of the observation of strange flying objects moving at an incredible speed for their time. There were so many appeals from the population that very soon the Air Force became interested in this problem, and then other state bodies. It was at that time that the terms “ufology”, UFOs appeared, and even entire centers were opened, studying the phenomenon.
Исследования проводились около двух десятилетий, and then were officially discontinued at the federal level. At the same time, a significant number of UFO sightings reports were not considered and studied in an appropriate manner. Some reports of unusual flying objects were explained as such, which arose on the basis of known phenomena of nature and human activity.
In 1969, all UFO research by government organizations was discontinued in the United States. Since then, ufology is an activity that is done exclusively by independent “lovers”.
What does ufology do today?
Official science today does not give an exact answer.to the question: “Are there any intellectually developed extraterrestrial civilizations?” Most experts agree that outer space is too large and has been little studied by mankind to deny with certainty the existence of life on other planets. However, no evidence or traces of an alien mind were also found.
What is studying ufology today? The main work is carried out to collect information and new evidence of UFO sightings. Often, ufologists study the places where unidentified flying objects were observed and are looking for material evidence of their existence. Many associations operating in this field specialize in space exploration, attempting to discover extraterrestrial civilizations and establish contacts with their representatives.
Related sciences
Unrecognized ufology has a lot in common withseveral globally recognized sciences. Very often, ufologists work with people who claim to have witnessed a UFO, but can only confirm this event with their own testimony. In this case, psychological methods are used to collect and verify information. First of all, the mental state and health of an eyewitness should be assessed. If a person suffers from some kind of psychiatric illness, the likelihood that he has actually witnessed something unusual is minimal. With such sciences as astronomy and meteorology, ufology also has much in common. About aliens often tell eyewitnesses rather rare meteorological or astrophysical phenomena.
UFO is what?
Unidentified flying object - definitiontoo vague and multifaceted. What exactly is usually denoted and perceived as a UFO? Most often, this term is used for naming objects moving in the sky at a speed or along a trajectory that does not coincide with the available modern aircraft. Many eyewitnesses also describe unusual forms of UFOs or bright light emitted by them. Cases of observing the aliens themselves and even contacts with them are also considered by ufology. The unknown and the unusual is always explored with particular enthusiasm by ufologists. Perhaps, once ufology will indeed be recognized by science and prove the existence of the objects under study.
