A briefing is a short briefing forjournalists, which allows them to orient themselves in the program of an event and to understand some aspects that should be considered when covering current news (programs).
Currently, the briefing is called almostevery press conference, but this is wrong. After all, even if you look into the encyclopedic dictionary (by the way, the dictionary of foreign words “briefing” is absent), you will find the following definition: “A briefing is the shortest possible press conference that sets out, expressed the position of the government on any issue”.
But do not take the briefing as an attemptThe government, officials or the press department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will somehow influence the course of coverage of a popular rally, summit, campaign. After all, a briefing is just an auxiliary tool (component) that facilitates the reporters to do their hard work.
Forms of briefing
In Western countries, very often a briefing issome form in the form of breakfast with the media. But the press conference may well be an independent broadcast on television, especially if it solves some universal issues or global problems.
Quite often there are situations whenTV workers are organizers of similar press conferences, and then we can safely say that the meaning of the word briefing is expressed in the form of an independent genre of analytical journalism.
In this case, the organizers are invited to the studioany well-known politician or public figure, artist or musician, so that he can express his point of view on some actual and lively debated problem in society. And also, while there is a briefing, the significance of which is the presentation of public opinion through the media, the guest undertakes to answer related questions from those present.
During the process of recording a program or directbroadcasting, not only the meeting organizers and the TV channel staff can ask their questions, everyone present has the right to question the guest, as well as journalists from various print media, radio and television programs.
It is worth noting that such events haverather high demand, as they almost always turn into a heated discussion that is interesting to viewers and influences the popularity of the TV channel that organized it.
Such discussions are often filled with realdramaturgy of events, a collective search for a way out of these situations, so it allows the transfer (program or television channel) to attract a significant audience of viewers.
At the same time, you should always remember that,By participating in this kind of briefing, any member of the public media present has exactly the same rights to receive information on the subject under discussion as any other media representatives. When there is an urgent need, each member of the media participating in the press conference has the right to assert their rights and demand an exclusive interview with the guest of the TV program.
