He was shot down near Rezekne during the assaultartillery positions; the pilot managed to land a plane that lost control over the forest, while he himself was severely injured. He was able to return to the regiment only after a three-month stay in the hospital with the doctors' opinion, which allowed him to count on at least flights in light aircraft. Vladimir had to fly on these “maize farmers”, solving local issues. The patience of his soul, who yearned for the Ilyukha’s cabin, lasted no more than a month; Vladimir began to write reports one after another, achieved a re-medical commission and in March 1945 took to the air in his native Ile-2. Death took place on March 26, 1945, when, during the next assault of enemy positions, an anti-aircraft missile hit the plane. Vladimir Gulyaev managed to safely land the aircraft at his home airfield and after that repeatedly made two or three flights a day.
