A little more than thirty years ago, on the night of 26April, there was one of the largest accidents in the history of the use of atomic electricity. Due to the uncontrolled growth of power of the fourth generator, which was put into operation less than three years ago, an explosion occurred after midnight. Despite the measures taken in time to reduce the amount of radiation (it is worth noting that this helped for a short time), the amount of radioactive substances released into the air only grew, and it was possible to talk about reducing them only two weeks after the accident itself. Complicated the situation and the fact that the emitted substances were carried by air over long distances.
Effects of pollutionradiation were stretched in time. Immediately after the accident, 31 people died, 600 thousand people involved in the elimination of the accident received high doses of radiation, 404 thousand people were forced to throw their belongings, houses, apartments and move as far as possible from the dangerous area. The lands that were used in agriculture have been damaged, many hectares have become unsuitable for growing useful crops on them.
At the same time after construction work"sarcophagus" for the fourth block of the station six months after the accident, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant began to gradually resume its work. But after ten years, the first unit was decommissioned. In 2000, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant finally ceased to function.
April 26 - the day of memory of those killed in radiation accidents and disasters. These days, people all over the world come to monuments and light hundreds of candles.
