When operating the computer quite often beforethe user has a problem when the system writes: “not enough space on the C drive”. In no case can you ignore this message, and in most cases you will not be able to ignore it (even with such a desire). The appearance of this warning is due to clogging of the local C drive and requires immediate user intervention.
Sometimes a message about the fact that not enough spaceon the disk, arises due to improper breakdown of sectors on the hard disk, when the size of the local disk is too small. Especially often this situation occurs in users of Windows 7 and above, as they habitually leave small volumes for drive C, without taking into account the fact that new systems require much more space. If for Windows XP and programs 30-40 GB was enough, then for new versions of the Microsoft shell program, it is desirable to double this number, otherwise quite often you will have to solve the problem with the appearance of a notice “not enough disk space C”.
If there is not enough space for the system, thenit would be desirable to re-install and redistribute hard disk space. In the event that this is not possible (for example, an office computer that cannot be “touched”) or the reason is contaminated, a series of cleaning actions should be carried out.
First you need to clean the system from alltemporary files that create programs, browsers and Windows itself. For these purposes, you can install any of the available free programs. Quite often, the amount of such “system garbage” reaches indecently large volumes, which provokes the appearance of a notice “there is not enough disk space”.
Then you should carefully review the foldersdownloads, documents and desktop on the subject of old and already unnecessary files, images, etc. If you have any doubts, you can not delete them, but, for example, transfer them to another local disk with more space.
If the methods described above did not help the systemstill complaining that there is not enough disk space, you will need to carefully check the installed programs. Some of them, for example, Photoshop, take up quite a lot of space and can be transferred to another disk, which will not affect their functioning, but will free up space to work with disk C. In the case of outdated and unnecessary programs, you should get rid of them.
In order to eliminate the “insufficient disk space” notification, you can perform some actions with the system, namely:
- turn off sleep mode;
- move the swap file.
In sum, these two actions will give at least 4 GBfree space. To disable sleep mode, you need to select "Power" in the control panel. There you need to find "Monitor off settings". Then you should select the option "never", which is responsible for putting the computer into sleep mode. After that, you need to open the command line (a combination of “Win + R”) and register there “powercfg - h off”, confirming the action by pressing the “Enter” key.
To move the paging file should find“Speed” item, located in the system properties, which can be selected by right-clicking on the “My Computer” icon. There is a tab "Advanced" on which to open the "Options". Usually the system is automatically configured to reserve disk space C. The user must remove this disk. To do this, you need to select it and set the confirmation in the “Without paging file” item, confirming the actions by pressing the “Set” option. You can select another disk and install the swap file on it. For the changes to take effect, the computer will have to restart.
