Biography
The author of the poem "The Ballad of the Mother" was born in1928 in Tver. He began his writing career at the age of twenty. The future famous poet graduated from the Philological Faculty of the Literary Institute. Dementiev worked in editorial staff of the newspaper, was a member of the agitation group. In the 1960s he held rather high positions in leading Soviet publishing houses.
Also the poet worked on television and led severalgear. His literary work was extremely fruitful: for several decades several collections of poems were published, as well as books with selected works.
