Currently, a hugenumber of foreign movies. Their original names are translated as they are presented in a foreign language. The name of the picture plays an important role in understanding the film and inducing interest in it; translators must be responsible so that the Russian version of the translation is very sonorous and meaningful as the original. Sometimes there are situations when the name of the film does not correspond to its content, or when translating there is no genre adaptation.
Adaptation strategies
When translating titles, meaningfulthe number of so-called adaptation strategies. The most elementary is the literal or direct translation of the name of the film, which is used in the absence of untranslatable socio-cultural realities and a clear conflict between content and form, for example, the project Welcome to Paradise (1984), which came out in the Russian version called “Welcome to paradise!". Reviews called the translation of his name - tracing.
There is another strategy:called transformation, i.e. name change due to different factors - functional, lexical, pragmatic or stylistic. That is, the translation is accompanied by semantic adaptation, in which the genre or semantic inadequacy of the exact translation is compensated by the addition or omission of individual lexical elements.
Another strategy that is actively usedtranslators, is a complete replacement of the name of the movie due to the inability to reproduce and convey the original meaning of the original text. A vivid example will be the names of the films: Vice (2014), Ins Blaue (2012), Into the Blue (2005), which went into the domestic rental with the same name - “Welcome to Paradise”. Reviews about them were different, however, as the genre and semantic load.
Adventure Thriller 2005
Domestic rental project namedirector John Stockwell and screenwriter Matt Johnson sounded quite tempting and at the beginning paid off completely. The first minutes of the timing of the picture “Welcome to Paradise!" brig. However, further the affection of the beholder is replaced by anxiety for the fate of the main characters, because young people manage instead of the treasures of antiquity to find a sunken modern aircraft with a huge batch of heroin.
You won't relax
From now on, the film Welcome to Paradise!»Fully justifies the declared genre policy of adventure thriller. It begins a completely different movie with shootouts, explosions and fights. There is no time for contemplating the charms of nature and the tanned bodies of the main characters. The pearl of the picture was the performer of the main female role Jessica Alba. The girl was so good that, fearing excessive criticism, the studio resorted to computer graphics and adjusted a number of shots so that her bikini slightly hid the figure. This fact did not escape the attention of viewers who looked “Welcome to Paradise!”. Their reviews were unanimous: "Jessica in a bikini is good, but the film is not very." Maybe that's why this opus in the US box office did not get to the 20 million box office, but it went very well in other countries.
Sequel
Movie directed by Stephen Herek and screenwriterMitchell Kapner entitled Welcome to Paradise 2: Reef (2009) has nothing to do with the original, except for the water theme and the problems lurking in the depths of the sea. The first thing that caught the eye of the viewer while watching the project was the mass of elastic and tanned female bodies against the background of the touching beauties of the beaches, the clear ocean water and the magnificence of the insanely blue sky. Already only one such beauty could be watched. No wonder the film "Welcome to Paradise 2: Reef" reviews dubbed the "movie of cute attractive faces and inflated torsos." However, the stars in the cast diminished. Of the more famous in the shooting took part Laura Vandervut ("Competitors"). But what could be expected from a project that immediately went on video?
Yielding to the original standard
Most often, the sequel to the famous project, leavingimmediately on DVD, does not meet the standard of the original and the expectations of the viewer. But the film “Welcome to Paradise 2: Reef” kept the average result and pleased the viewer with a good storyline, leading roles and good camera work. It is difficult to find fault with the technical side of the picture, everything is done perfectly: both plans are under water and on land. The musical accompaniment also fits well into the film. The plot of the crime thriller “Welcome to Paradise 2” was critically called by critics' reviews, although some seemed to be too prolonged. In the film there is intrigue, it can also be regarded as an argument for viewing.
Same but not rated
According to statistics, 40% of foreign films inRussian hire have names that do not carry a literal translation. The distributors tried to use more intriguing titles to attract a larger audience of viewers. However, this trick was not justified in two films with the same name “Welcome to Paradise”. Reviews about them are extremely problematic, and they are too restrained.
- Drama production Germany screenwriter, directorand producer in the same person Rudolph Tome, released in 2012, is a film in the film. The plot tells about a novice director who is trying to shoot his first full-length project. But the fact is that the episodes played out in front of the camera begin to affect the real life of the filming participants. Gradually, explosive mixing of fiction and reality takes place. Such is the intrigue of the drama "Welcome to Paradise." Reviews of the film among film critics are mostly positive, although the picture has not yet gained worldwide popularity.
- American TV project 1984 shot directorDaniel Heller on the script of Sterling Sillifanta. Low budget thriller
Pretty low budget 2014 thriller ViceDirected by Brian A. Miller, filmed on the script of the creative union Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore, critics call a rash attempt to mix episodes and styles of sci-fi films in one bottle that have become cult: "The Matrix", "Western World", "Recall All", "Blade Runner" and "Robocop". The attempt is a priori a failure and also cheap, so “Welcome to Paradise 2”, the viewer certainly will not see. Although the same “Blade Runner” could have looked like this, if it had not been created by Ridley Scott, but by some unknown Hollywood studio stamping pictures of category B in the 80s
Plot
The film "Welcome to Paradise" (2014)tells the story of a futuristic resort town. The local population of the city is made up of androids, outwardly indistinguishable from people. This is what respectable businessman Julian (Willis) is building his business on. He is a unique service - the execution of the dirtiest, forbidden and vicious desires of people. Androids will endure everything, and after the procedure they erase their memory, and satisfied perverts, having paid for the fulfillment of their desires, leave the resort. Once the girl-android Kelly (Emby Childers), keeping in memory all the atrocities, escapes. Julian sends an entire army of armed robots to search for and capture her. The hero Bruce Willis is not at all worried about the costs of slaughter.
Waste of time?
In order to dilute the android action bithuman emotions, the creators introduce into the plot of the engineer who created Kelly (Brian Greenberg). The man created a robot in the image and likeness of his wife, so he tries to help her. To exacerbate the conflict, the scriptwriters are following in the wake of the fugitives of the battered, seasoned detective Roy (Thomas Jane), who is eager to destroy the shameful business of Julian. Bruce Willis does not save the situation, although in another less predictable and superficial film his appearance as the main antagonist would give the viewer real pleasure. By the way, this is not the first critically dated Miller project in which Willis took part. Last August was released, but the Prince movie, which Jeremy Passmore and André Fabrizio also worked on, went into oblivion. Perhaps this creative team will decide on the third attempt, and the viewer will soon see “Welcome to Paradise 2”.
