From his father and mother, the boy inherited a light cheerful disposition, which is very useful to him on his chosen path in life. Over time, the family moved to the Irkutsk region, where in his young years Lenya worked in the Theater of Satire and participated in performances in the local House of Culture. In 1942, he was drafted into the army and a year later he was seriously wounded in the leg. After returning home, he went to study at the Drama Theater, graduated in 1947. After that, he successfully played in performances for two years, but he realized that he wanted to try his hand at directing.
In 1949, Gaidai went to Moscow to studyon the director. It was there that he met the one who had become his wife for the rest of his life - Nina Grebeshkova. It was she who supported him in periods of creative failure. In the same student years, Haidai’s filmography began when he appeared as an actor in the film “Liana” (1955). Three years later, the drama “Wind” came out, where Leonid was shot again. But after these films, directing became his main focus, and therefore acting films of Gaidai are rather poor. So, it can be seen in the “12 chairs” of 1971 and “there is a good weather on Deribasovskaya ...” of 1992. This talented man was gone in November 1993.
Directorial debut
As a director, Leonid began his career in1955, a year later saw the light of the film "Long Road". Although the picture was not comedic, the professionals saw in it an excellent comedian and recommended to focus on this genre. It was from this moment that Haidai’s directorial filmography began.
