Large-scale military film with battles on the water,on land and in the air, with computer Schwarzenegger and all kinds of terminators - this is how the fourth part of the cult franchise marked the actors who took part in the shooting. “Terminator: May the Savior Come” has all the necessary components: a tightly-bound script, powerful mythology, impressive special effects and a harmonious cast.
The fourth part of the saga
Two previous episodes about the deadly war betweenby humanity and cars, shot by James Cameron, have long become cult and textbook, they are deservedly considered the best parts of the franchise. But their tense, deadly standoff, crazy drive was buried by the completely unfortunate third episode of “Rise of the Machines”. Film director Jonathan Mostow created something inconceivable with the idea, and even the cast members agreed. "Terminator: May the Savior Come" - the fourth episode of the saga - filmed by the successor of Mostow and Cameron, directed by MacGee, familiar to the viewer from "Charlie's Angels". His gloomy brainchild from the near future about the battle of people and cars causes nostalgia for the still “Terminator” and encourages the viewer to feel sympathy for the new. In fact, McDji in the most current manner restarted the saga - both viewers, critics, and actors involved in the project experienced it. “Terminator: May the Savior Come” came out under the slogan: “Beginning of the End”.
Plot
Story narrative unfolds in 2003year Dr. Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter) is sent to prisoner and sentenced to death by Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington). She asks the main character to give his mortal body for medical experiments. A year after the events described, SkyNet initiates the Third World War, as a result of which almost the entire human civilization is killed. In 2018, intelligent cyborgs are destroying the survivors. At this time, Marcus regains consciousness, not understanding why he remained alive. Discouraged by what is happening around, he almost becomes a victim of cyborg, but young Kyle Reeves (Anton Yelchin) manages to save him. The teenager introduces Marcus into the course of events, telling not only about the war, but also about the resistance movement led by the legendary John Connor (Christian Bale). Marcus decides to find Connor, not suspecting that he is a pawn in the struggle of machines and people.
Preparation
One of the merit of the director is chiccasting cast McG has assembled an excellent acting team, ideally in harmony with the ideas of contemporaries about the near future of mankind. For a better understanding of the atmosphere of the project and complete immersion into the gloomy world of the film, the director obliged him to read Kormak McCarthy’s opuses “The Road” and “Do Electors of the Andrews Dream” Philip Dick Moreover, the entire film crew, including all the actors involved, was supposed to read. “Terminator: May the Savior Come” could have been different if the creators transferred, as planned, to the film, the director and the cast from the third part without changes. The producers managed to get the consent of Claire Danes, Nick Steel and Jonathan Mostow. But in 2007 there were fundamental changes in the plans. So, the director became McG's, the performer of the role of Connor - Christian Bale, known for the blockbuster "Batman Begins." Under the insistent recommendations of D. Cameron, a little-known Australian actor S. Worthington was invited to play the role of one of the central characters (later he will become the leading actor in Avatar).
Two role icons
Sometimes, when watching a game by Christian Bale,it seems that John is now spreading his wings and heading for heaven like Batman the bat. It was probably very difficult to play two canonical role-icons, but the actor coped with the task quite successfully. The heroes of the commander-in-chief (Michael Ironside) and Kyle Reese, played by Anton Yelchin, did well for the glory. Young, at that time 19-year-old, American actor of Russian origin always dreamed of acting in art-house film projects, but because of his outstanding texture and exemplary performance, Anton is invited to appear in blockbusters, fantastic action movies and thrillers.
Sam Winston Memorial Film
Unlike the third episode, in the fourth partdigital effects were kept to an acceptable minimum. At the same time the shooting process was accompanied by injuries: Sam Worthington managed to hurt his back, Christian Bale broke his arm, and one of the special effects masters lost his leg during the shooting of the explosion. In this film was devoted to the memory of Sam Winston - one of the leading masters of special effects, participating in the shooting process of the first "Terminator" and died during the shooting.
I`ll be back
It is possible that the first Cameron's "Terminators"for the overwhelming majority of viewers, they will remain exemplary, but the fourth episode is an opportunity to quite a bit plunge into the past, in which robots understand human emotions and feelings. The film should be watched at least in order to find out whether the terminator Schwarzenegger will appear in it.
