August is not only considered the main month of summer,in which practically all the vegetables and fruits are ripening, but it is also the most important from the church point of view. This month, the Orthodox observe the Assumption Fast, which is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. There are several posts, but this one is special. He is one of the many days, especially honored and ends with the celebration of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Unfortunately, in our time, church traditions have lost their great significance; not everyone visits the temple and fasts. Today, not everyone remembers, for example, how many Nuts Savior. In this article we will deal with all the features of the three holidays.
Assumption post: father of three
Sweet Post - Sweet Holidays
Despite the severity of the assumption post, heThere is one remarkable feature: it is at this time that they harvest and pay tribute to three, if not essential, then the most important gifts of nature - honey, apples, nuts. Ancestors attached particular importance to each of the food products, it was believed that this is how Mother Nature herself gives people her grace and strength. Our church-great-grandmothers celebrated 3 holidays - 3 Savior. It was Honey, Apple and Nut Spas. They were celebrated extensively, in a big way, despite the fact that August is a difficult and troublesome month for the peasant. The name of the holiday - “Savior” - is not accidental: it was an abbreviation of the word “savior”. Many important words originate from here: “thank you”, “save”. Despite the fact that at present the folk traditions have lost their positions, it is interesting to know how and when to celebrate three Spas: Honey, Apple, Nut.
Honey Spas
Apple Spas
Nut Spas
Nut Spas - the third in a row, marked 29August and is the most important among the rest of the summer holidays. In another way, this day is called Bread Savior. It is this name that is more accurate and truthful. On August 29, the harvesting season ends, and for the first time, the hostesses bake from the flour of this year’s harvest. In the church, they consecrate the festive loaf, and only after that they take a sample. Together with the grains, the bread was brought to the temple and the nuts that just ripened. The name of the Savior “Nut” is also justified by natural scientists: studies have proven that it is precisely by this time that the final ripening of nuts occurs, and now they can be eaten without any health hazards.
Folk omens on Nut Spas
In Nut Spas, the third "delicious" holiday of summer, ended the harvest and made a special "birthday sheaf" - the last sheaf of the outgoing year. On this day, the last swallows fly away. It was important for the villagers to know how many Nuts Savior was in order to finish all the work on the fields. The peasants were in a hurry to remove the bread until August 29, and those who did not have time were happy to help the neighbors and relatives - it was thought that God would give health and well-being for this.
If the day when they celebrate Nut Spas, cranes fly to the south, then the winter is expected to be cold and snowy, if the birds remain, then the winter time will be warm. Walnut twigs, torn and lighted on August 29, are able to heal the sick, cast out evil spirits from the house.
An interesting statement has developed among the people:"Petrovka - hunger strike, Spasovka - gourmet." The word “Spasovka” originates from the word “Savior”, which refers to the three main Orthodox summer holidays. With the onset of the Nut Spas, life became truly tasty: the peasants were treated to ripe hazelnuts, juicy sweet apples, and delicious aromatic honey.
Miracle canvas
The story that the Bible tells is interesting.Legend has it that Jesus Christ, during the miracle of healing of Vladyka Avgar, wiped his face with a cloth of pure cloth on which the divine face later appeared. The fabric with the face of Jesus is still preserved and gathers crowds of pilgrims. Cloth can work wonders, cure the sick, soothe the souls of seekers. In commemoration of this magical event, long since August 29, cloths were brought to the church for illumination, of which then all year long they sewed clothing to household members.
There is a saying:“The first one is saved - they stand on the water, the second one is saved - they eat apples, the third one is saved - canvases are sold on green mountains”. An event that happened thousands of years ago with an ordinary canvas is also revered in the church: on August 29, the Orthodox celebrate the holiday of transferring the miraculous image of Jesus Christ from Edessa to Constantinople. This significant event took place already in the year 944, but even today church people remember and glorify the event.
Spas many faces
Surprisingly, it was Nut Spas that hasmany names that are justified from the Orthodox, cultural, everyday, agrarian point of view. Walnut, Bread, on Canvases, on the Canvas, Canvas - these are the names of the holiday, which is traditionally celebrated on a large scale on August 29. It is important to know how many Orekhovy (Khlebny) Spas will be, because this day must be celebrated the way our ancestors did.
