Different fabrics are created in various ways.weave threads. The properties and appearance of the material depend on their relative position. Here, in particular, how poplin differs from sateen and other fabrics: the principle of plain weaving is used in its production. This is the simplest pattern, in which the longitudinal (base) and transverse (weft) threads overlap each other in a checkerboard pattern. The satin weave is designed in such a way that on the front side of the material there are more longitudinal, thinner threads, thanks to which the fabric looks very smooth on the outside and matte on the inside. Poplin or satin - what is better to choose if you want a thing to have a noble shine? Of course, satin, because besides the nature of weaving, which provides gloss, it is created from twisted yarns, which adds the fabric of shining modulations.
Nature of fibers
Сатин, бязь, поплин – из какого сырья производят these fabrics? Satin and poplin today are made from both natural (cotton, wool, silk) material, and from chemical fibers. Poplin often uses a mixture of natural and synthetic fibers. Calico, which is also made by the method of linen weaving, is made only from cotton. All fabrics are subject to dyeing.
Poplin or satin
What's better? It depends on the individual preferences of the consumer. Some like a smooth and cool canvas, others prefer a deliberately uneven structure, giving the fabric a feeling of home comfort. The peculiarity of poplin is that when weaving a thick transverse weft lies across the thin threads of the base so that it forms a kind of hem on the back and front sides of the fabric. Historians tell us that this fabric appeared in the French residence of the Pope of Rome, and translated into Russian means "papal".
Dense brilliant satin hails from China. The word comes from the Arabic name of the Chinese harbor - Zaytun, from where ships sailed, sending ferries of magnificent matter to Europe. Medieval craftsmen sewed satin luxury clothes for noblemen. Thanks to his fantastic strength, they were decorated with shoes and palace furniture.
Modern usage
The classic use of listed fabrics -tailoring and linen. Calico, poplin or satin - which is better to choose, for example, for bed linen? Coarse calico is very popular with housewives, it is inexpensive and practical. Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers made of natural poplin are very good to the touch, almost do not wrinkle, excellently absorb moisture and retain heat. They are nice to wrap up and sweetly fall asleep in the icy winter night. On the contrary, bedding from sateen in hot and sultry weather looks seductive. Smooth shiny surface wins heat. The material is durable, keeps the color for a long time and is quite simple to maintain.
Dresses, shirts, tablecloths are also readily sewn frompresented fabrics. The clothes from the printed coarse calico are, however, not often met now, but poplin or satin are widely used. What is better worn and looks: satin shirt or poplin t-shirt, poplin skirt or satin jacket?
