Plane Picatini and Weaver rail

Anyone interested in firearmsa person or just a curious reader of magazines and books on the subject of weapons is constantly confronted with the terms "Picatini plate" and "Weaver." Both one and the other are ancillary devices for equipping with additional equipment, without which modern small arms are unthinkable. This article is intended to give a popular definition of what the Pikatini plank is and how it differs from the Weaver rails, as well as describe the features of both and their designations according to the NATO classification.

Pickatin Planck

The name comes from the English Picatinny rail.Structurally, the device is a rail-bracket, which resembles the letter "T" in cross section. It is used on various small arms as a universal mount for optical, collimator sights and other auxiliary devices, including supporting bipods, tactical pens, laser aiming indicators, lighting devices and other equipment.

A common standard was developed by the militaryUS Research and Production Organization Picatinny Arsenal. This standard is known in America under the designation MIL-STD-1913. For NATO, it has a different designation, namely: STANAG-2324. The Pikatini bar allows not only rigidly fixing an additional device on the weapon, but also moving it back and forth, fine-tuning it for each individual shooter. Directly fastening to the bar is carried out using bolts and levers, which allows you to quickly change the configuration of the equipment, adapting the weapon for a specific task. To avoid deformation under the influence of temperature changes that occur during heating and cooling of the barrel, the Picatini plate has transverse slots made with a constant pitch. Their dimensions and pitch are set by the general standard (slot - 5.23 mm, pitch - 10.01 mm, depth - 3 mm). In addition to the cooling function, the slots play the role of position fixers for many auxiliary devices.

Pickatin Planck differs from Weaver onlythe size of the slots. In fact, the Weaver rail is the same design, but does not meet the standard MIL-STD-1913. As a result, most auxiliary devices that are mounted on Pikatini strips can be installed on the Weaver rail. The weaver slits are 0.180 "wide, but, unlike Picatinny slats, the Weaver slits are not necessarily spaced apart from each other, so not all auxiliary devices intended for rail mounting will fit the Picatini bar.

In conclusion, draw the attention of airsoftthat in the case of various copies of small arms produced by the People’s Republic of China, the standards specified in the article are not maintained, and often the width of the slats and the slots in them are of arbitrary sizes. And this applies not only to the Picatini slats, but also to the fastening devices. Therefore, buying such a replica, you should immediately select the device mating with it, otherwise it may be very difficult to find a suitable part later.
